Kathleen Airhart, EdD
Kathleen Airhart, EdD, serves as Program Director for Special Education Outcomes at the Council of Chief State School Officers. She leads work related to supporting students with disabilities and assists in implementation of key elements of the strategic plan. In collaboration with National Center on Intensive Intervention, National Center for Systemic Improvement, and the CEEDAR Center, she provides guidance to states to promote high expectations and appropriate supports for each student and state level collaboration to improve outcomes for students with disabilities through systems alignment and an MTSS approach. Kathleen brings with her many years of educational experience, including working at the Tennessee Department of Education (TDE)as a Deputy Commissioner, Chief Operating Officer, and Interim Superintendent for the Achievement School District. Prior to her time at the TDE, Kathleen served as a superintendent of schools in Tennessee and was named Tennessee Superintendent of the Year (2011). She began her public education career as a special education high school classroom teacher and served as the special education supervisor for several years.
